Coaching Manitoba - Open for Business
It’s been approximately 2 months’ since my arrival at the Coaching Manitoba Office and the experience to date has been nothing short of excellent. We have a great staff and we are looking forward to what the upcoming year will bring us. Each month we have the opportunity to recognize the incredible impact coaches have on their athletes with our partner Global Television through the Global Coach of the Month Program. The month of April will also bring the annual Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards. This is an opportunity to recognize Manitoba coaching excellence at all levels in sport.
I have had the pleasure of speaking with many coaches from across Manitoba about numerous sport topics. Some conversations about tremendously positive things that are happening in their communities but also discussion around challenges they face within sport. Typically in these cases, coaches, parents, and organizers are searching for support and guidance on how to resolve the “issue”. The fact that they have picked up the phone to speak with us is a positive first step. While we would argue there is no magic bullet or course to fix or resolve every challenging issue, there are tremendous resources that exist within Sport Manitoba and Coaching Manitoba programs, as well as programs offered through other organizations within the sport community.
It is our goal to ensure we can provide you with access to resources to help you become a better coach. Part of that entails access and information to programs that address what some might call “the ugly side of sport”. Quite honestly when issues arise we tend to be reactive. It really requires that we are all more pro-active rather than reactive. Don’t wait until you have a problem to call us. Try us today and maybe we can help you build a more positive sport experience for your athletes and all those involved. This can include access to information that will help increase your technical knowledge or pro-actively address risk management.
Remember “Good Coaches Build Better People” and that’s the beautiful side of sport.
We look forward to bringing you more information about coaching development opportunities in the upcoming issues of Coaches Clipboard.
