I would like to get involved in a sport. How do I join a team, club or a league?

Teams, clubs and leagues fall under the sanction of Provincial Sport Organizations, who Sport Manitoba recognizes as the governing bodies for individual sports and who are responsible for their sport's programs. Contact the appropriate Provincial Sport Organization to find a club or league in your area. Is there assistance available to help my son or daughter participate in sport?

KidSport is Sport Manitoba's charity which raises funds that are used to offset the cost of registration fees for financially disadvantaged children between the ages of 6 and 18. New and recycled sports equipment is also available. KidSport applications are available on the Sport Manitoba web site.

Our team just won the provincial championship and will be representing Manitoba. Are we eligible for travel assistance?

Travel to regional or national events is a responsibility of Provincial Sport Organizations. Individual sports have different policies that govern out-of-province travel assistance. Please contact your Provincial Sport Organization.

I'm interested in becoming a coach. How do I go about this?

Contact the Coaching Manitoba Unit of Sport Manitoba for information on becoming a certified coach and the theory of coaching requirements. Information on the technical and practical requirements of becoming a coach is available from Provincial Sport Organizations.

How do I get my Respect in Sport number?

If you have misplaced your certificate, and can’t remember your number it is easy to retrieve. Simply log-in to the program, click on print certificate, which can be found on the first page after logging in, under Instructions. This opens a dialogue box that displays your certificate, which includes your number. You can record the number yourself, or print off the certificate for your own use. How do I become a member of Sport Manitoba?

Sport Manitoba is not a membership-based organization. Sport Manitoba recognizes individual sport organizations and partners with them to deliver sport programs, activities and services. Individual sport organizations however are membership-based with membership fees supporting the activities of that organization.

How can I get my sport activity recognized by Sport Manitoba?

Sport Manitoba recognizes only one organization per sport as the governing body for that sport in the province. Sport Manitoba recognizes 76 Provincial Sport Organizations. Organizations must meet defined recognition criteria. Newly recognized organizations are encouraged to join an existing organization with similar activities. Recognition does not automatically qualify an organization for funding assistance. For more information regarding sport recognition criteria email us.

How is Sport Manitoba funded?

Sport Manitoba receives the majority of its funding from the Province of Manitoba. Approximately 70% of Sport Manitoba's $13 million budget is reallocated to Provincial Sport Organizations, 20% supports Sport Manitoba programs like Team Manitoba, Manitoba Games, Athlete Assistance and Coaches and Officials Development and approximately 10% is for administration and operation of the Centre for Sport.

How do I apply for a bingo event from Sport Manitoba?

Sport Manitoba allocates the bingo events it receives from the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation to Provincial Sport Organizations. These bingos are reallocated to their members based on their policies.Contact the appropriate Provincial Sport Organization for more information on criteria and application.

Eligible community sport development partners hosting major events sanctioned by Provincial Sport Organizations may also access bingo events through Sport Manitoba's Regional Offices.
